Stress and anxiety: How it affects blood sugar level?

As we all know that a rise in the blood glucose level is known as Diabetes, multiples studies proved that chronic stress and anxiety might cause diabetes.

According to the latest study, a person with diabetes has 2 to 3 times higher risk of having diagnosed with depression. Most of the diabetic patient fears that diabetes may damage their organ or how long they will survive. Depression rises our stress hormones like adrenaline, noradrenaline, and cortisol which damages different organs in the body. The rise in stress hormones raise blood pressure and decrease the impact of insulin in the liver. As we know, liver function both as a storing house and manufacturer of the glucose. Stress hormones increase glucose’s production in the liver. These hormones also decrease the blood flow in the organs which hamper their function. Hence, we felt fatigued and maybe muscle cramp even at minor work.

How stress and diabetes affect the brain?

There is a hormone called cortisol which is triggered by tension. Cortisol depletes the oxygen to the brain which slowly starts wearing out the short-term memory. It means you start to forget about things that you want to do shortly or you had done in the near past. When cortisol rises too much, it blocks protein going to muscles. It means you can’t use these amino acids to build muscles. Instead, it shifted to the liver where it is broken down and converted into carbohydrates. That’s called gluconeogenesis, means making new sugar. This is why so many issues we see with diabetes, insulin resistance, and cortisol. When cortisol converts protein into carbohydrates, it spikes the insulin. When insulin stays too high for too long, it blocks the absorption of nutrition and glucose into the brain. It causes the problem of brain fog.

Symptoms of stress and anxiety:

Stress not only makes us irritable but it can also trigger many medical conditions that can potentially impact our health. It’s often too easy to notice when someone is in stress and anxiety, but it’s more difficult to spot it in own life. Following symptoms will help you recognize whether you are stressed out or not:

  • Weakened libido:

Stress and anxiety can secretly weaken our libido: low amount of hormones involving sexual activity can create a feeling of frustration.

  • Hair loss:

We usually lose 100 strands of hair per day. But when we are stressed out, it alters the body’s physiologic functions. If you notice an excessive amount of hair loss. It could be altering you that you are overstressed and in knots.

  • Mood change:

Anytime we experience a significant mood shift; we can almost predict mood shifts. But everyday life events can take a toll on our mental and physical health. Stresses push an internal panic button and hormones misfires.

  • Too much thought about work:

If your view repeatedly turns to workplace dynamic, especially when you are not at work, try to take the step back. A steady concentration on problems at work can create a host of adverse effects on your body and in your life in general. Make a mental decision to push those thoughts aside and find something else to occupy your mind.

  • Weight variation:

For some, stress and anxiety can impact your diet. This can be overeating or loss of appetite. If you are experiencing either of these changes, it may be time to try to find new find ways to relax.

  • Sleep disorder:

It’s extremely frustrating to spend a sleepless night. Or sometimes, you get more than 8 hours sleep and still feels exhausted.

Irrespective of all these symptoms, there are so many other symptoms like:

  • Anxiety and restlessness
  • A headache
  • Fatigue
  • Dryness of the mouth
  • Frequent urination
  • Unmotivated

How can we reduce mental stress?

As no test in the world can check whether your stress is impacting your blood glucose level, you can only monitor it when you are in tension and not in tension. Take these reading for at least 15 days and make a graph of blood sugar level. If it is increasing or decreasing figure then your stress has direct impact stress has a direct impact on blood sugar level. To overcome anxiety, you need to change both diets which contain a sufficient amount of all vitamin, minerals & probiotics and living style. Here are ways to come out of stress:
